If touring around Germany, in the car of your choice, visiting the best factories, museums and racetracks with a smattering of beer at the world-famous Oktoberfest interests you then book time off in your calendar and get ready for the ultimate trip for petrol heads, gear heads and automobile lovers. Whether you love to drive, go to museums, or see how things are made there will be plenty to make it the trip of a lifetime.
We are planning tours of four factories, three racetracks and six auto and technical museums with an opportunity to take in Oktoberfest in Munich. The driving experience will be varied with 1800 km – 2200 km planned over 15 days commencing on Friday, September 19th and returning to Canada on October 5th. With an average daily driving of approximately 140 km we will be staying mainly in Stuttgart, Munich, Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Nurburg (home of the famous Nürburgring racetrack).
There will be routes that minimize distance and time, at Autobahn speeds, as well as routes that maximize twists and turns without a care for how long it takes……. recognizing that the driving experience is as important as the destination.
We will be utilizing the Hub and Spoke approach, once again, with most of the locations having three-night stays allowing people to settle into their rooms. Along the way between cities, you might see some historic landmarks and an occasional castle, but this isn’t a church and castle tour and the only history you will get is automobile and maybe beer.
The tour will start in Frankfurt where you will pick up the car of your choice, booked through SIXT Rental where you will receive our corporate BMWCSA discount. We will make a counter clockwise route taking us down the southwestern part of Germany, over to Munich, Bavaria and then north through and into the eastern part of Germany in Leipzig where we will have access to the Porsche Factory, Racetrack and Museum as well as the BMW Factory and possibly a special side tour of a Watch Making Factory. From there we will go to Wolfsburg which is the home of VAG (Volkswagen Auto Group) and the Autostadt. This is the Epcot of the Auto World. There are pavilions, museums, restaurants, off road adventures, the world’s largest auto factory, hotel, car delivery towers, gift shops and many other things to see. You won’t be disappointed.
There will be opportunities to drive on two or possibly three racetracks or simply to watch and visit the famed racetracks. If there is interest, there may be an opportunity to add a day or two and visit Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in nearby Belgium only 1.5-hour drive from The Nürburgring which can be added on as an individual experience. The tour will conclude in Frankfurt to return cars and fly home.
