Eamon’s Garage Museum – Informal Drive
Saturday July 27th
• Meet at Eamon’s at the High River Ag Society Grounds at 10:30 AM
• Admission by donation
The Eamon’s Garage was relocated from the City of Calgary (Highway 1A to Cochrane) to the beautiful town of High River and is now a Museum. This allows volunteers to showcase the history of the Eamon’s Garage and Tourist Centre and the display of a typical service station’s tools and equipment and how a typical Texaco service station of the 1950’s and 60’s operated.
Next door is the Call of the West Museum, a look at farming in the early years of Alberta. A collection of tractors and farm equipment is available to see. The Museum has one of the largest and best quality collections of lifting jacks, oil related adverting & unusual Ford products to be found anywhere. Also, Model T cars & trucks, a newly restored “Haynes” car, oil & gas signs and related memorabilia, toys, jacks, cameras, coca cola memorabilia and many more antiques and collectibles. You can even get a haircut in an old time barbershop.
For lunch, head over to Evelyn’s Memory Lane Café, featured in “The Last of Us”. If you are a “Heartland” fan, try Maggie’s Diner.
Take a drive around the Town to see the 16 murals depicting life in High River. If you want more information on the murals, the brochure is at https://highriver.ca/discover/high-river-murals.
If you want to spend the day in High River, the Battle of the Foothills Chuckwagon Races start at 7:00 PM on that Saturday. While you are waiting, there are food trucks, live music, beer gardens and vendors.
DIRECTIONS: Travelling south on Highway 2, turn west at the first High River Overpass, Highway 543. Expect to spend an hour and a half touring the two museums.
We will meet at Eamon’s at the High River Ag Society Grounds at 10:30 AM.
